Venezuelan Minister of Interior, Justice, and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, announced the detention and handover of a U.S. Air Force pilot to the United States.
Cabello stated the pilot was apprehended after entering Venezuela with the intention of carrying out terrorist acts. He indicated the pilot’s motives were not benign, suggesting sabotage was planned. Cabello also mentioned the pilot’s prior presence in Ukraine, implying involvement in destabilization efforts, and this comes before regional elections.
The minister explained the pilot attempted to justify his presence with a narrative yet to be fully disclosed. This action is part of broader government efforts to safeguard Venezuela’s integrity, particularly in the lead-up to upcoming regional and parliamentary elections.
Cabello highlighted Venezuela’s history of dismantling conspiracies and terrorist plots, often linked to external actors, specifically the United States. This event follows the recent suspension of flights from Colombia due to the arrest of individuals tied to mercenary and terrorist groups, suggesting increased security measures ahead of elections.
The government emphasizes defending national sovereignty against external threats. This incident underscores the Bolivarian government’s commitment to peace and democracy, actively confronting attempts at destabilization from foreign actors, and securing its safety from imperialist interference.
