Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced Wednesday that work on a memorandum outlining a potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine is actively underway. He stated much of the ongoing work remains confidential. Peskov also emphasized Russia’s openness to contributions from other countries in resolving the conflict.
The memorandum is expected to address critical aspects of the situation. This includes principles for resolving the crisis, along with a potential timeline for a peace deal. It will also cover conditions for a temporary ceasefire between the involved parties.
The location for further negotiations between Russia and Ukraine has not yet been determined, according to Peskov. Simultaneously, Russia is working on a prisoner exchange agreed upon with Ukraine in Istanbul, Türkiye, involving 1,000 captives.
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke on the phone. They agreed that Russia would propose and prepare a draft memorandum for a potential peace agreement with Ukraine, marking a key development in the ongoing efforts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after his conversation with Trump, reiterated Ukraine’s commitment. He stated Ukraine would not compromise on territorial issues or withdraw from its territory. Zelensky urged Trump to ensure no decisions regarding Ukraine are made without Kiev’s involvement, emphasizing this as a crucial principle.
These developments come amid ongoing conflict and diplomatic efforts to find a resolution. Both Russia and Ukraine are actively pursuing their positions while exploring the potential for a negotiated settlement to the ongoing crisis.
