Putin Visits Kursk Region After Reported Ukrainian Withdrawal

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a visit to the Kursk region of Russia on Tuesday.

This marks his first visit to the area since the reported expulsion of Ukrainian forces last month.

The Kremlin announced that Putin met with volunteer organizations during the visit.

He also toured the Kursk-II nuclear power plant, accompanied by officials including Kremlin first deputy chief of staff Sergei Kiriyenko and acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein.

Late last month, Russia stated that it had driven Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region, ending what was described as the largest incursion into Russian territory since World War II.

Ukraine had reportedly advanced into the Kursk region on August 6th, employing drones and Western weaponry.

Ukrainian forces are said to have controlled approximately 540 square miles of the area.

This visit follows recent peace talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials in Turkey.

These talks were the first direct negotiations between the two countries in years, however, a ceasefire agreement was not reached.
